This is my collection of blog posts sharing the best wines I was lucky enough to drink each month, along with my tasting notes, Vivino ratings, and food pairings.
To put “BEST” into context: I am judging all the wines I drink based on their quality to value ratio, which is aligned with how I rate wines on Vivino.
Each wine I score is based on a 5 star scoring system, and I take into account the wine’s quality, uniqueness and deliciousness compared to other similar wines within a similar price range.
This means that a $5 dollar cabernet sauvignon that tastes as good as most $30 cabs will receive a higher score than an objectively better quality $100 cab, that also tastes as good as most $30 cabs. That $5 cab is a great wine at that price point and might get 4 stars, while the $100 cab might be a bit below average at that price range and get 2.5 or 3 stars. Even though the $150 cab is a “better” in a vacuum.
Remember we don’t drink wine in a vacuum, the cost of wines do matter (for most people) and the relative value of a wine is immensely important in judging it. Plus if you try to drink wine in a vacuum you will likely spill most of it and die.
